02-10-2005 - Making An Impact On My World Through Writing Spiritually Focused Internet Content

Writing Spiritual Content For A World Reaching Website

Recently I responded to a request for articles for a large website. I responded by sending one of the blogs I had written on this site. The rules were that the material was to be original and needed to be written on a regular basis. I was told that if it is already on another web, the title needed to be changed and 10% of it needed to changed as well. So I submitted an article and was accepted for a specific category --Ministry Opportunities.

Using The Internet To Impact The World For Christ

I wrote my first WorldVillage article today, which can be read by clicking on October Is Clergy Appreciation Month. They even had me submit biographical material, which you can read by clicking on Chaplain Paul Slater bio.

My Website Writing Motivation

Now what is my internet content writing motivation that prompts this world changing web based writing?
  • The first is a motivation to make this a better world for Christ's sake. The internet is huge, with millions of prospective visitors I hope to enfluence to visit my site.
  • The second is a motivation to help hurting churches and frustrated pastors see ministry in a new light. With over 1500 pastors leaving ministry each week, I hope to help them reframe the concept "leaving ministry" to "expanding ministry".
  • The third motivation is a financial motivation to earn extra income to support my ministry habit. And someday I hope it is more than just enough to pay the utilities, as it is now. I look forward to the day when my internet ministry efforts are funded by the internet based income strategies I use.
Some of you may be asking "You can make money on the Internet?". Sure, and why not have that income be for funding world missions or be for funding ministry endeavors? More on this in another blog. 08-10-2005 - Let Me Suggest This Wood Working Link For A Unique Pastor Appreciation Gift

A Perfect Pastor Appreciation Gift For A Spiritual Care Giver

As you consider pastor appreciation gift ideas, how about a new high precision wood working tool! She will love it! Seriously, most pastors need a hobby and a wood working hobby seems to me a perfect pastoral diversion. And a great pastor appreciation gift for a spiritual care giver would be a subscription to a wood working magazine, because wood working was what Jesus did for much of his life. I often wonder, why did Jesus choose to be a carpenter as a profession, working with wood as he prepared to be more than a carpenter, the Saviour of the world.

A Wood Working Link To A Unique Pastor Appreciation Gift

Nonetheless, let me suggest this wood working link for a unique pastor appreciation gift, a subscription to a great wood working magazine, Woodworker's Journal. Click here to Subscribe to one of the finest wood working magazines, the Woodworker's Journal, online and get two free gifts! Woodworker's Journal is the "Voice of the Woodworking Community". Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Woodworker's Journal offers:
  • great wood working projects,
  • wood working tool tips such as setting up an efficient wood working bench,
  • wood working tool reviews featuring a high precision tool for wood working in each issue,
  • free wood working plan resources,
  • and techniques for woodworkers of all skill levels! Click here to Subscribe online and get two free gifts!
I believe a hobby or diversion such as wood working can be just the tool for constructing a way to deal with ministry career stress. And let me also suggest you add this wood working link to the many pastor appreciation gifts you will be giving, a place to search for a wood working power tool:
Search Rockler.com's Extensive Woodworking Catalog

Search from over
9000 products!

May Your Pastor's New Pulpit Be Yours

Hopefully your tribute to your pastor will make pastor appreciation month a great success. And if your pastor is thinking change career thoughts because of pastor burnout, may the new pulpit be yours, one he or she constructed because you gave a wood working magazine subscription. 16-10-2005 - Building Website Traffic For Effective Faith Based Websites

Back on my August 23rd blogging with purpose entry, I asked-- and answered! (Hey, it's my website) -- this basic question about effective techniques for building church websites:

What Does It Take To Have A Quality Church Website?

I asked this question because so much more could be done, even by me, in improving the look and use of spiritually based websites.

What Should Church Websites Do To Attract Visitors?

This question on attracting visitors to struggling church websites came from an individual who had put so much effort and money into a website, but with no traffic to show for it. His question, "How do you get people to visit your website?", has prompted me to explore how I could communicate more effectively some techniques for attracting traffic to faith based websites. The techniques for increasing church website traffic I suggested are: 1. Use Keywords People Search For To Make Spiritual Impact 2. Create Websites That Endure Over Time I always recommend Site Build It! because anyone can learn to use it -- the overworked pastor or an even more overworked church secretary or administrative assistant. 3. Understand The Business Side of Ministry Let's face it -- there is a business side to ministry. I see enterprising church leaders buy property, promote and sell books, sponsor concerts and retreats they expect people to pay for, and of course, purchase the offering plates used for the collection. They even deposit the contributions collected in a local bank or credit union. I just think we need to be honest about the business side of ministry -- buying and selling is what businesses do, and so do churches! So it is that I continually address the business side of ministry. Creating an income stream through a church website is a method of fundraising through the internet.
  • For example, why not have a website that promotes the businesses of your church attendees?
  • Help them earn the income that is the basis for their tithes by featuring their business, a noble purpose for a faith based website.
  • Using your church based website to promote services your own church people offer is wise stewardship for church leaders.
  • By the way, you will take an offering, allowing people to donate their contributions, won't you? Onward with purpose, Chaplain Paul Slater For information on building a world changing website, click on I want to impact the world and share my message

19-10-2005 - Some People Foods Are Pet Poisons

Toxic Foods and Dangerous Foods: Chocolate, Coffee, Avocados

My family likes avocados (also chocolate, and coffee). Sadie, my son's Yellow Lab, likes them too. Our neighbor has an avocado tree that drops fruit onto our back yard. To Sadie, avocados are like green toys to play with. She then eats them when she her playtime is done. But it seems avocados are bad for dogs. If we wanted to keep her away from the avacao tree, we should have ordered that Dog Obedience Book.

Praise God for our new D.V.M. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, A Career With Purpose

We just about lost Sadie, our familiy's 4 legged mental health therapist, last night. The Veterinarian said it was Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and small intestine, characterized by vomiting and bloody diarrhea. He asked if we had checked to see if she had ingested some poison or cleaning solution. Nope, no sign of empty containers or spills in the garage. No empty paint cans in the back yard.

To Humans, Something For Salads But To Dogs, Dangerous Toxins

But she does love to eat those avocados in the back yard. The vet said that may have been the cause of her intestinal bleeding. Perhaps so bacterial toxins in rotted fruit or green fruit. We found this advice about Avocados in an article entitled Don't Feed Your Dog Toxic Foods "All parts of the avocado tree, including the leaves, bark, seeds and fruit, are toxic to dogs. Persin, a fatty acid derivative, is the toxin in this plant. Signs include breathing difficulties, an extended or enlarged abdomen, and fluid accumulation in the abdomen, the chest, and sac around the heart." "At this time, the amount of avocado fruit or other plant parts needed to toxify your dog is unknown, so do not feed any of this toxic food to your pet."

Our Dog's Bleeding Has Stopped, But My Wallet Has Started Hemorrhaging

The vet finally got the intestinal bleeding stopped this afternoon as well as the vomiting. Close call said the vet. Sadie will spend another night in the Emergency Room for dogs and then come home tomorrow. We will also cut the avocado tree branches back. There's little hope for the wallet. But as our son says, you're willing to spend money to keep your best friend! I wonder if avocados are really that good for humans? Onward and upward, Chaplain Paul Slater

22-10-2005 - Pastor Appreciation Theme Meets With Christian Home Based Business Theme

Reflecting On The Pastor Appreciation Theme and Pastor Appreciation Month

As I reflect on the Pastor Appreciation Theme as we conclude Pastor Appreciation Month, this blog allows me to express some concerns I have about how churches provide for their pastors financially. You see, pastors have few advocates for their financial support. For example, you've never heard of a Pastor's Union, have you? I do praise God for a renewed emphasis on pastor appreciation and hope to pursue another another ministry website focusing on pastor appreciation ideas within this pastor appreciation theme.

Discover Legitimate Home Based Business Opportunities That Fit Your Ministry Purpose

So what would I suggest to the financially strapped pastor? What advice would I offer someone whose ministry career financial situation needs extra income?
  1. Investigate Christian home base business opportunities, such as starting a Christian Bookstore. To see how, click on Online Christian Bookstore
  2. Explore purpose driven home based businesses that can be an extension of your ministry or just a money making internet business. To explore this website career option, click on starting your own internet based business website.
Wow, I really got on a roll developing this home based business theme in the context of the pastor appreciation theme, but then that is what having a ministry website is all about -- expressing one's passion through internet resources. Onward with purpose, Chaplain Paul Slater

30-10-2005 - Make Every Sunday Pastor Appreciation Sunday

Pastor Appreciation Month Is Great But Every Sunday Should Be Pastor Appreciation Day

OK, I admit it -- I am biased in my pastor appreciation focus. Not just because I served as a pastor in the 30 years of my pastoral ministry career. I think churches ought to make each Sunday of the year pastor appreciation Sunday for several reasons:
  1. First of all, expressing pastor appreciation pleases God. In scripture, pastor appreciation is a key focus for churches wanting to please God.
  2. Second, Pastor appreciation makes a church look good to the community. If you are looking for an idea for pastor appreciation month, although you will want to do more, that you even thought about expressing pastor appreciation is a pastor appreciation gift in itself!
  3. I talk to many discouraged pastors whose church missed pastor appreciation month. Just mentioning that you appreciate your pastor may have been a wonderful pastor appreciation gift to the pastor who feels unappreciated, lonely, and near pastor burnout.
  4. Third, to help those wanting to pay tribute to their pastor do so by offering a pastor appreciation gift idea. Make every Sunday pastor appreciation Sunday by implementing a unique pastor appreciation day idea .
  5. The purpose of this article is the same as this website --to help you express pastor appreciation. Churches are stronger when they do so. Onward with purpose, Chaplain Paul Slater

31-10-2005 - Exploring Career Options For Pastors That Will Expand Their Ministry Career Beyond Imagination

Trying to Survive Financially As A Parish Pastor

I first read Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Church when I was trying to survive financially as a parish pastor in Bellingham, WA. One of the factors that grabbed by attention was the fact that this life changing, ministry challenging book was dedicated by Pastor Warren to mission church pastors. And, as a discouraged pastor facing pastor burnout, that simple dedication page was a great encouragement to one thinking about leaving the ministry. Warren's second book, The Purpose Driven Life was written at a time when I was seeking new direction for my ministry career. Perhaps you too are struggling with the direction of your career and are ready to make a Change Career With Purpose decision.

The Purpose Driven Theme Changed The Direction Of My Life

Reading both of those books with the purpose driven theme changed the direction of my life because it changed the direction of my career. My research on the purpose driven life has culminated in my website, with it's focus on "Careers With Purpose", especially the "Change Career With Purpose" theme. I intend on pursuing what I perceive as my God-given purpose, which is to enable people to be all they can be, through the grace of God, in a number of ways, the first of which is writing with purpose.

The Purpose Driven Life Article Project

First is in writing, such as in what I am doing now in authoring this purpose driven life article you are now reading. I had never considered myself to have any creative writing skills. But as I approach my 60th year of life, I find myself constantly writing and I have even been told by a few that they like my creative writing style. I even have in mind to write my first book. I have discovered that there are many people in my life who have writing aspirations but do not know how to start their book writing endeavor. One ebook self publishing guide that clicked with me is Instant Ebook Writing Kit. While not specifically aimed at the Christian writer, it has solid ebook authoring instructions on ebook self publishing, teaching authors how to profit from their book writing efforts, by introducing self publishing secrets as well as introducing the concept of publishing on demand. So, as I wrap up another month, I reflect on how God has expanded my ministry beyond anything I could have imagined since first reading The Purpose Driven Church as a discouraged, defeated, burned out pastor.
