01-12-2005 - Pastor Appreciation Theme and Financial Ministry Career Regrets
How To Launch An Internet Based Business To Financially Support Your Ministry Career
For years I have been impressed with the ministry career of Dr. Ralph Wilson. He has developed an internet business to support his ministry career financially. It was not surprising to have him tell me "Launch an internet based business to financially support your ministry career".
Tap Into The Internet To Raise Support For My Ministry Career
One of my key pastoral career regrets is not listening to Ralph when he shared this ministry funding advice a few years ago -- that I tap into the internet to raise support for my ministry career.
I am not sure he would even remember that I called him and talked to him about financial resources internet marketing provides those in ministry.
It was then that I first heard the term search engine optimization, eventually leading me to use SEO Elite to improve my website's Page Rank.
In fact it was through Dr. Wilson that I first heard of SiteBuildIt, the program that launched my web based ministry/business Change Career With Purpose.
Of course, had I known what drives affiliate marketing then, I would have made sure he received credit for my order. Sorry about that Ralph Let me also say "Thanks" because your influence to launch my website has been financially rewarding.)
Ministry Careers Funded By Affiliate Marketing
Now I suppose some would be surprised to learn that Dr. Ralph Wilson is also addressed as Pastor Ralph Wilson. The reason is that, while he is one of the world's foremost authorities on internet marketing, he is a pastor of a local church as well.
In my reflection following a recent Pastor Appreciation Month, I thought of how I should develop a Pastor Appreciation Theme that pinpoints the tremendous financial opportunities that internet marketing provides those in ministry careers.
What I Finally Did Financially To Support My Ministry Habit
- I subscribed to Dr. Ralph Wilson's Web Commerce Today Newsletter.
Web Marketing Today Premium
- I ordered his Report on Affiliate Management Software.

Let me suggest you take a look at Dr. Ralph Wilson's Internet Marketing Materials if you find yourself in need of developing a ministry financial support strategy.

03-12-2005 - Find Dream Career | Pastor Appreciation Poem | Career Builder
Interesting Career Change Information
Let me share with you some interesting career change information I have discovered recently.
Find Dream Career Is A Pursuit Many Desire
When I discovered that pastor appreciation poem word searches was very popular in search engines, if you want to find the dream career, a ministry career would be right near the top of purpose driven careers.
In fact, pastor appreciation poems still comes in as the most popular page on this Change Career focused website. I still have yet to place a pastor appreciation poem on that page but it does give a unique perspective to the problem of pastors leaving ministry because of pastor burnout.
Find Dream Career Is Often the Goal of the Discouraged Employee
I suppose many of us would answer "find dream career" if asked what we want most from our career aspirations. But I have a hunch that it would not take very long after changing our career that we would be dissatisfied again.
The Pastor's Role As Career Builder
Perhaps one of the roles a pastor could take on is that of a career builder to give him or her new fulfillment in their own ministry career. I have several friends who have taken this career builder assignment very seriously. Usually they have done so because of the great unemployment problem among their parishioners.
A number of years ago I remember hearing a pastor from the urban center of Seattle share how a key part of his ministry was helping 75 new businesses begin within his congregation.
Now there's a pastor who most likely had many a pastor appreciation poem written in the hearts of those he had helped in his role as career builder.
By the way, the best $10 I ever spent was for an ebook on how to use the internet to help people find their dream career. Click on the inspiration behind this career builder website.

10-12-2005 - Reflections On A Sucessful Ministry Website
Developing A Website With Purpose
It was a year ago that I began this career change focused website. At first it was a whim, an expression of my passion for exploring productive ministry career options.
Determining a website niche challenged me in that I wanted to pursue a website venture based on a personal spiritual passion.
Setting Out To Explore Ministry Or Business Website Niche Possibilities
"What do you talk about most?" was the question I was asked when setting out to explore ministry or business website niche possibilities. Right up front, I wanted to share my passion for ministry.
But I knew that I wanted to include another my passion for chaplaincy. So many have asked me how to become a chaplain that I think I would be wise to write an self purblished ebook, something along the lines of "A Handbook For Chaplains". To me becoming a chaplain is a purpose driven ministry career I love to share about with those thinking of beginning a new ministry career. I also see it as a viable ministry career option for those who are contemplating leaving ministry. (By now my readers know that the term leaving the ministry is a term I would rather reframe into the concept of expanding ministry options.)
When choosing a website host that would help me achieve my purpose, I chose SiteBuildIt as my faith based website host. Why would I choose SiteSell's SiteBuildIt for building a ministry based website? After all, SBI is geared to small business websites and home based business websites, not church ministry websites or faith-based websites. Here are the reasons I feel SBI is the best church web host to be found:
- Ease of use for the inexperienced church webmaster,
- its comprehensive web building approach that can be adapted into a Christian based website,
- and lots of hand holding for the inexperienced webmaster.
In fact, this support is not just from a help desk but from others also in the learning process of developing a website. This website builders support group takes on a role of a community of faith, much like an internet church of sorts. (I will develop that concept later).
I Wanted A Purpose Driven Website
But most of all I wanted a purpose driven website and, dare I say it? -- A Website With Purpose -- committed to fulfilling my purpose -- helping others become all they could be by the grace of God.

14-12-2005 - Become Your Own Middleman On Everyday Products
Unique Yet Simple Financial Transaction Concepts
I have some unique yet simple financial concepts that I believe make sense. There are for most of us only 2 sides of any financial transaction -- a consumer or provider. Now this one aspect of financial has always intrigued me -- consumers pay money and providers receive money.
In Financial Transactions There Is A Middleman
But there is a fact of financial life that might get past us if we are not alert to the financial transaction process -- usually in any financial transaction there is a middleman. Whether a bookstore or cell phone dealer, middlemen facilitate the process of delivery.
I guess that is why I have been asking this question -- what if I became my own middleman for the products I use daily? Now please understand that the question is not "Do I want a middleman?" but rather "Do I want to be the middleman?"
For example, I have decided to start being the middleman for phone services, long distance services, domain hosting services, and even my broadband internet service. How? Through my own communications products home business.
Getting A Slice Of The Financial Pie For My Own Daily Usage Of Everyday Products
I am in the process of determining the long distance carrier I want for my long distance service by using the Best Rates Search Tool.
Here is how it all began. I saw this ad years ago, responded by signing up, and then did absolutely nothing until now. Here is the article: Achieve the Freedom of Financial Stability.
Where all this will lead to I am not sure. Perhaps all that will happen is that I will get a slice of the financial pie for my own daily usage of everyday products.

My wife may be ready for her own work at home web business. I think I will have her check out Work At Home Moms (WAHM) to earn the needed money for her honey do projects.

15-12-2005 - I Appreciated The Rabbi Greeting Me Merry Christmas And I Was Sincere In Saying Happy Hanukkah
We have great respect for each other. We both work for LightBridge Hospice in San Diego. I appreciate so much the fact that my Jewish friend felt free in greeting me "Merry Christmas" and know he did so with sincerity. For me, my interest is not to be tolerant so much as to be respectful. There is no need to disparage the faith of others -- in fact I find much more dialogue occurs as we approach each other from a position of respect.
According to the entry on Hanukkah in Wikipedia Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday, also known as the Festival of lights. Hanukkah is a Hebrew word meaning "dedication".
When choosing Hanukkah cards for our Jewish employees, I discovered that there are other spellings in English, such as Chanukah, Hannukah, Hanukah, Chanuka, Chanukkah, Hanuka, Channukah, Hanukka, Hanaka, Haneka, Hanika and Khanukkah.
Working with our Jewish Hospice Program has been such a blessing to me, enabling me to learn more about some foundational truths regarding my own faith.
Perhaps this basic information can give you a perspective about Hanukkah that will give you a better understanding of this Jewish celebration. According to Wikipedia, it begins on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev, and the holiday is celebrated for eight days. Since in Jewish tradition the Hebrew calendar date starts at sunset, the first evening of Hanukkah starts after the sunset of the 24th of Kislev. The Rabbi, informed me that December 26 marks the beginning of Hanukkah.
This is usually the evening before the date shown for the first day of Hanukkah on the Gregorian calendars that include it. The start of Hanukkah usually falls in December but occasionally is in late November.
Hanukkah gained increased importance with many Jewish families in twentieth century America, including large numbers of secular Jews who do not celebrate other key holy days, such as Sukkot, who wanted a Jewish alternative to the intense Christmas celebrations that often overlap with Hanukkah. The Rabbi even said that the fact there are 8 days for gift giving make his families celebration the envy of the Christian children in his neighborhood.
Hanukkah commemorates two main historical events:
1. The triumph of Judaism's spiritual values as embodied in its Torah (symbolized by the Menorah) over Hellenistic civilization which had attempted to Hellenize (culturally assimilate) the Jews away from practicing Judaism's commandments.
2. The victory of the ancient Jewish Hasmoneans over the Seleucid Empire when Judah Maccabee and his brothers defeated overwhelming forces and rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem, almost two centuries before the common era.
However, because Jews do not glorify war and because of Judaism's dislike for the Hasmonean later ungodly behavior, the holiday has never emphasized these military aspects but has concentrated on celebrating the rededication and the associated miracle of the Hanukah lights as described in the Talmud.
The festival is observed in Jewish homes by the kindling of special Hanukkah lights on each of the festival's eight nights.
So it is that today the Rabbi wished me Merry Christmas and I wished him Happy Hanukkah.

24-12-2005 - The Role Of A Healthcare Professional Chaplain In The Medical Profession
For a healthcare professional chaplain, there are exciting and fulfilling purpose driven careers for clergy. In choosing a career as a chaplain, there are chaplain job opportunities in many professional chaplain settings, such as hospital chaplain, hospice chaplain, and other healthcare chaplain employment opportunities within the medical profession.

25-12-2005 - What Would You Expect If God Really Did Come To Earth?
Mine is a simple faith. I really do believe that God became man. But this is no sentimental belief that is based on a cute story about a Baby. It is so much more than that -- a life related faith in God, who became a man for the redemptive purpose of eternal salvation and resources for facing the trials of life.
Before my change career decision from a parish pastor career to a healthcare chaplain career, I would preach an annual sermon entitled What Would You Expect If God Really Did Come To Earth In Human Form? or a variation of that best loved story of Christ's birth.
- If God were to come to earth in human form, you would expect, if it was really God, that He would make a very unusual entrance and come in a most unique and special way. And God did just that, coming as a Baby, born of a virgin, born in a cow stall with a cow crib as his first crib.
- If God were to come to earth in human form, you would expect, if it was really God, that His life would be full of the miraculous. And Jesus did just that, healing the crippled, restoring sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf, conquering storms, and even raising the dead back to life again.
- If God were to come to earth in human form, you would expect, if it was really God, that He would teach the most amazing life related principles. And Jesus did just that. . .
- speaking such powerful truths that they have endured through the ages,
- teachings that have an eternal and life changing impact.
- If God were to come to earth in human form, you would expect, if it was really God, that He would come with the most amazing purpose. And Jesus did just that, coming not just to be a cute baby, but as the Savior of all who put their faith and trust in Him.
- Jesus came to redeem us,
- He came to forgive us our sins, restoring fellowship with God,
- God became man to give us inner resources to face the demands of life,
- Jesus came with the redemptive purpose to give us the gift of eternal life.
There were times I was asked to speak at a Lion's Club luncheon or a Kiwanis Club breakfast during December. Now I am smart enough to know that when a service club asks a pastor to speak during December, they expect to hear a faith related message.
I believe this message was based on a chapter from Josh McDowell's original book Evidence That Demands A Verdict and that you can find McDowell's books at Online Christian Book Resource
Have a very blessed Christmas,

29-12-2005 - Grief needs in the workplace prompt call for bereavement ministry to employees
Today I will be presenting bereavement resources to the employees of healthcare facility who are grieving the death of a co-worker.
The administration of this particular health care facility recognized the grief needs of their employees and called me to address their need to grieve.
Basically our bereavement session will enable their grieving employees to name their grief as they deal with the death of a fellow employee.
Chaplain ministry to the workplace is a growing need employers are now addressing as they realize the impact of spiritual needs upon worker morale.
