01-03-2006 - Be Careful How You Phrase Your Comments About Older Women
How Would I Have Entitled A Report On Working Women 55 And Over?
I received a recent government report entitled "Older Women Workers, ages 55 and over". Now I am not sure how I would have entitled that report on working women 55 and over but I decided to get my wife's take on it.
I was wondering, "Hummmn. . .if I use this material on my website, perhaps I better change the title."
Knowing better than to say "Here, you qualify for this report on older women", I did check with my wife. She's good with words and she is especially a renowned expert when it comes to men saying the wrong things (or at least me phrasing my words wrong.)
So I asked her "How does this title grab you -- Older Women Workers, ages 55 and over"?
The Report On Older Women In The Workplace Interested Her
My wife's response to the working older woman surprised me. "Well let's face it -- that's just the way it is. Being 55 as a woman does mean older. By the way, just what does the older woman report say?"
So here is a brief portion of the report that I was thinking of renaming "Seasoned Female Employees In The Workplace, Aged None-of-your-business and Beyond."
Humnnn ... I better work on a better title. Better yet, my wife has been right 100% of the time when it comes to these kinds of things. She even agrees with the government on this one, so I better go with her take on the older working woman report:
Older Women Workers, ages 55 and over
Population Facts Impacting Labor Force Realities
- There were 34.9 million women aged 55 and over in the U.S. in 2004. This represented 55 percent of persons in this age group.
- Of those 34.9 million women, 10.7 million were in the labor force (working or looking for work).
- Labor force participation rates for women over 55 years of age continue to increase. Their labor force participation rate was 24.0 percent in 1994, 25.6 percent in 1999, as compared with 30.5 percent in 2004.
- Women aged 55 and over accounted for 15.6 percent of the total female labor force and in 2004. They also made up 46 percent of the total 55 and over labor force (men and women).

Now the trick for me is to use this information to enable me reach my purpose, Helping people become all they can be, by the Grace of God.

07-03-2006 - Clickbank Products Search Engine And Ministry Funding Strategy
Supporting What My Wife Calls My Internet Ministry Habit
Recently I wrote an article explaining my website goal -- "Making Money Through A Proven Internet Marketing Strategy To Support What My Wife Calls My Ministry Habit"
One of my goals for this website and Change Career With Purpose Blog is to fund my chaplaincy ministry efforts -- what my wife often refers to as my "ministry career habit". (Hey, just think of it as passing the offering plate only you get products of value in return).
Recently I have seen some success in my Clickbank affiliate marketing strategy.
What Is Clickbank And What Are Clickbank Infoproducts
You see, I received checks from a company in Boise, Idaho called Clickbank. I used to be a pastor in Boise so I was very interested in how and why I received these checks. Clickbank markets over 10,000 InfoProducts (Internet marketing lingo for information products) that are geared to just about any topic you can imagine.
In the past I must have put a link or two on my website pointing to Clickbank, because in the last 2 months I received a check from them for my Clickbank Affiliate Marketing efforts. I was being paid for some products that were purchased through my career change focused website.
Below is the infoproduct search tool that allows people to go to a mall, actually a Clickbank product mall, featuring all kinds of creative internet products and digitally produced books (called ebooks).
Clickbank started as a way for people with a unique idea, message or passion to market their product and to process the financial part of that internet marketing transaction.
Clickbank's internet produced products are written by both experts with a proven track record in their field, as well as common folk just beginning, but all of us having a passion for our specific solution focused product.
Cbmall Is A Clickbank Shopping Outlet Store
CBmall is just like any mall in that it brings all of these internet product stores into a giant intenet shopping mall.
ClickBank Products Search Engine
Clickbank features
- digital internet marketing "how to" books,
- digitally produced books such as home business startup guides,
- as well as digital software products of all kinds that help people remodel homes,
- understand internet marketing,
- parent their children,
- take care of aging parents,
- self publish ebooks,
- learn languages,
and whatever else you can think of related to careers with purpose and changing your career.
There are even ministry related materials all immediately available through CBmall, your Clickbank shopping outlet store.
What I Did After A Few Unexpected Clickbank Checks Arrived In The Mail
Anyway, after a few unexpected Clickbank checks arrived in the mail, I decided to go back and really learn about what CBmall could do to fund my internet chaplain ministry career and to see how this infoproduct shopping mall could help me fund my chaplain ministry habit. So I clicked on 15 Powerful Ways CBmall Makes You Money.
What I learned (better yet, am learning) prompted me to write this webpage entitled How I intend to fund my internet ministry efforts through this proven Clickbank Affiliate Strategy

08-03-2006 - Spiritually Sensitive Parents Are Eager For Their Children To Embrace A Personal Christian Faith
What Does Dedication of Child Mean?
Recently I had the privilege of dedicating my niece's baby to God. What is thrilling to me is that 24 years ago I dedicated this same niece to the Lord when I was a pastor in John Day, Oregon.
For those who are wondering what dedication of children means, I offer the following explanation. In the Christian faith there is the recognition that everything belongs to God (Psalm 127:3-5). That recognition includes children born into our families as well as those adopted. Christian parents understand that their children are a gift from God to be given back to God.
Spiritually Sensitive Parents Eager For Children To Embrace A Personal Faith
In many communities of faith, Christian parents of young children dedicate their children to God. These spiritually sensitive parents are eager for their children to embrace a personal faith of their own.
Dedication of Children Is A Commitment By Christian Parents To Create An Atmosphere Of Faith And Obedience To God In Their Home
But as they dedicate their child to God, I believe it important to say to them that their act of dedication is not the personal salvation event itself, but is rather a commitment on their part to create an atmosphere of faith and obedience to God in their home, a spiritual atmosphere of faith that will create spiritual hunger for God on the part of the child.
In my faith tradition, I explain that baby dedication sets the direction for spiritual commitment. The ultimate goal of dedication of children is when their child declares his or her personal faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Thus Baby Dedication as some call it, also referred to as the Dedication Of Children, is a public expression and declaration of spiritual intentions that parents make to God regarding their child. Perhaps we should call it Parent Dedication rather than Baby Dedication.

14-03-2006 - Financial Accounting Services Career Opportunities
Significant Facts About Financial Accounting Service Careers
As I was exploring career option topics, financial accounting services was one that caught my attention because this was one of the few career industries that includes the term services to identify it.
The truth is that there are big changes in the financial accounting services and I would think are very purposeful financial services career opportunities.
The Banking Industry is just one example financial accounting services career opportunities.
- Banking employment is projected to grow more slowly than average as consolidation and automation make banks more efficient.
- Office and administrative support workers constitute nearly 7 out of 10 jobs; tellers account for more than 1 out of 4 jobs.
- Employment of tellers will increase more slowly than average, but job openings should be plentiful because the occupation is large and many tellers leave their jobs every year and must be replaced.
- Employment growth is expected in management and professional jobs, as well as for customer service representatives and securities and financial services sales representatives.
I was thinking of other employment sectors that I am associated with that include financial accounting services. Today I will receive a travel reimbursement check from the accountant that works for LightBridge Hospice, where I serve as a healthcare chaplain. My wife handed me a check to deposit that covers her purchases for preschool supplies, reimbursement for professional preschool expenditures, written by the accounting department at Pt. Loma Nazarene University. My sister served as an accountant at a faith-based hospital in South Africa for a number of years in her world mission career.

19-03-2006 - March Madness Creates Crazy Basketball Frenzy At Our House
I love basketball. In a recent devotional I provided in my "report line ministry", I shared how basketball becomes the primary television viewing choice for the two males of this 3 person household -- my wife just goes to our bedroom to watch home improvement decorating shows.
Last night we discovered that our favorite team, Gonzaga University Bulldogs from Spokane, Washington, was blacked out in our area. But we did find a way to watch somewhat, on the computer.
Our college basketball viewing experience was both rewarding in that we at least had good audio. But my son reminded me of the shortcomings of my ancient self-built computer, saying that our viewing basketball on computer experience was an indication we needed a new computer with better video capabilities.
So when he comes up with some to the money for a new computer, I found a link where I can compare prices on computers and software from thousands of online stores.
Back to the report line devotional ministry, my goal was to provide life related messages. My task as a hospice chaplain often means I am a workplace morale booster, so I offer a brief message on our hospice report line, geared to lift spirits of discouraged, overworked employees.
My message challenged our hospice healthcare workers to remember to develop self-care strategies so as to give balance to their lives.
In this particular morale boosting message, I mentioned that one of the advantages of our family moving a lot as a kid -- 19 grade schools and 3 different high schools -- is that I have a wide choice of college basketball teams to root for.
On top of that, I have served churches in my various ministry assignments located in Missouri, California, Idaho, Washington, before my present ministry assignment as a healthcare chaplain in San Diego.
Look at all the teams that I can support during what is called March Madness, the reference given to the NCAA basketball championship:
- University of Connecticut (my birth state),
- University of Arizona (where I was raised as a kid), University of Washington (I pastored in Bellingham for 13 years),
- Gonzaga University (Another Washington university, one that several of my son's friends attended),
- UCLA (I attended high school and college in the Los Angeles area).
Anyway, one of those college basketball teams will hopefully make it to the finals, giving me excuse to keep watching for another week. By then my wife will have discovered how to best complete our half done kitchen remodeling project.

25-03-2006 - Chicken Little | The San Diego Housing Market | Our Kitchen Remodeling Project
Chicken Little And San Diego Housing Sales
Tonight we watched Chicken Little as a family. Sounds nice doesn't it? Not the typical Mommy and Daddy and their 2 kids but 4 adults, Mom and Dad pushing 60 and Darrell, 33, and Heather, 30.
Each one of us has relocated to San Diego after deciding to change career directions. Last March we bought our present home, a modest 3 bedroom house with a mortgage only millionaires use could afford in the past.
Watching Chicken Little yell that the sky is falling reminds me of what some are saying about the housing market in San Diego. Yet I heard this week that while new housing starts are down, sales of existing homes are up by over 5% over the previous year's sales.
Deciding Not To Listen To Chicken Little
Anyway, today we decided not to listen to Chicken Little's housing assessment in San Diego and took action to follow through on our house remodeling plans. We are focusing first on our kitchen remodeling project.
Keeping Our Kitchen Remodeling Project Simple
Our kitchen remodeling project is simple in that we decided that in addition to new paint and lighting, we would replace the dishwasher and rip out a poorly installed wood floor and replace it with laminate tile flooring.
After removing the wood floor, today's blister giving task was to chip away several layers of tile flooring under the wood flooring.
We are still exploring the exact kitchen floor replacement we will choose. The good news -- there are just so many options. The bad news -- there are just so many options.
One thing for sure, we are committed to something fast and easy to install. If you too have a kitchen floor project in the works, check out how you can Save up to $100 @ FastFloors.com! Use Coupon Code: ZLS564201!

26-03-2006 - Awaken to the fact that March 27- April 2 is National Sleep Awareness Week
Did you know even realize that March 27- April 2 is National Sleep Awareness Week? Come on, wake up to the significance of this rousing discovery!
There are several in my family for whom sleep is work. Each individual has a unique sleep pattern, unlike the others of us in the family.
For example, our son cannot get to sleep at night and as for me, after 5 or 6 hours of sleep I am ready to get up. I do take a "power nap" in the afternoons because power nap sounds better than lazy nap.
I am a morning person, my wife and dauthter are not. I say "Good Morning, Lord" and they say "Good Lord, is it morning?". Of course, my son, still awake, simply says "Good night, Dad" when I say "Good morning, son".
The truth is that sleep disorders are real and do affect one's work, perhaps even career. I am pleased that there are those whose career choice is to research sleep disorders, offering real solutions to sleep deprivation problems.
So happy Sleep Awareness Week. Now you know that March 27- April 2 is National Sleep Awareness Week (R) you probably want a Happy Sleep Day Gift.
Good news -- "Your Guide to Healthy Sleep" can be ordered online for $3.50 or from the NHLBI Information Center at P.O. Box 30105, Bethesda, MD 20824-0105, or at 301-592-8573 or 240-629-3255 (TTY).

27-03-2006 - Chaplain Duties During A Traumatic Event
Defining A Traumatic Event In Light of Ministry Opportunity
An event, or series of events, that causes moderate to severe stress reactions, is called a traumatic event. The tramatic events news resources report such as the dam disaster flood in Italy or the Sago Mine disaster catch the attention of America and the world. Many of us us are still affected by disaster events such as 9/11 Twin Trade Tower Disaster or hurricane disaster events such as the Katrinal Hurricane Disaster.
Each of these events has given call for chaplains to respond the personal pain that these tramatic events trigger within suffering people, even when the state with the natural disaster is very far away.
More governmental agencies and organizations as well as businesses are realizing that traumatic events spark the need for spiritual support to traumatic event victims.
The role of chaplain is to help people draw upon inner personal faith resources during these crisic moments. This fact has long been recognized by military, hospitals, and trauma event responders, leading to career opportunities for professional chaplains.
Traumatic events are characterized by a sense of horror, helplessness, serious injury, or the threat of serious injury or death. Each of these traumatic event characteristics may cause victims to search for spiritual meaning of the event, prompting questions within that are spiritually based.
Traumatic events affect survivors, rescue workers, and friends and relatives of victims who have been directly involved. In addition to potentially affecting those who suffer injuries or loss.
In addition, these crisic moments may affect people who have witnessed the event either firsthand or on television. Stress reactions immediately following a traumatic event are very common, and it is during that time that people express their spiritual questions and their need for spiritual support.
Traumatic events in America and around the world have provided us a powerful reminder that hurting people turn to faith for strength, comfort, and hope to make sense of it all. Chaplain career opportunities have arisen out of these painful traumatic events because people cry out to God for answers.
