02-05-2006 - Reflecting On My Brief Career As A Help Desk Technician

A Career Interlude On My Change Career Journey

Internet Web Host Job Opportunity

Recently I noticed an internet web host job opportunity as a help desk service representative and was reminded of my first job after leaving pastoral ministry, a victim of pastor burnout. I served in a position we called Minister of Technology, a title I am sure chosen because I needed to see myself in some form of pastoral ministry. (I now see that my position in that particular organization was just as much ministry as serving in pastoral ministry in a local church.) The truth is I was chosen for that internet position by a wealthy Christian businessman who desired to start a family-friendly internet service, wanting it to be a uniquely Christian Internet Service. While starting a Christian Internet Service was motivated by wanting to protect families and their children from the evils of the internet, God used that transitional internet employment as a means to move me from where I was to where I would go next.

God Was Positioning Me To Move To My Next Ministry Career

Having experienced professional burnout after 30 years in pastoral ministry, my job in that Christian internet organization met my need to feel I was still in ministry. As I reflect on what God was doing within me, preparing me for starting Careers With Purpose, He was also positioning me to move to my next ministry career, being a professional health care chaplain. Many jobs are what I perceive as interim career positions, transitioning those wanting to change careers from the career that they have had to the career they will have. Could it be that instead of leaving the ministry, that Minister of Technology saved me to a continuing ministry career. I am not sure I would have become a certified healthcare chaplain had it not been for an interim career opportunity as an internet service help desk technician. Should you be considering a change in career direction, the employment opportunity you have (or will have) may just be an interim position while God positions you from where you were to where you will go. 03-05-2006 - WorldVillage Ministry Opportunities Website Featured

Recently one of my strategies to improve the popularity of my career change focused website was featured by Honor Hart, who is a SiteBuildIt Certified Webmaster. Honor (I love that name) described a strategy I have used to improve PageRank, which is basically a measure of value given to a website as to what it brings to the entire internet experience. Most sites would be thrilled to have a PageRank of 4/10 because so many rank far less than that. Here is Honor Harts recommendation to the readers of her SiteBuildIt Tips newsletter. She states: "Also, set up your profile page where you can list links to your website. See how this fellow SBI'er has done his profile page in the perfect way at http://blog.worldvillage.com/sys/bio/Slater.html His profile is sending nice PR4 links to his site." Thanks Honor, for featuring Change-Careers-With-Purpose.com in your writings through a reference to my WorldVillage blog. 10-05-2006 - Ending Theological Arguments . . . or Starting One -

I recently received an email from a friend, saying this should end all theological arguments. Well, I doubt that it will but it is a clever article to bring a smile to your face. I also understand that an article like this could just make some people angry. Hopefully that will not be you, especially should you know exactly Who Jesus is -- The Son of God and your personal Savior and Lord. My Cajun friend had 3 good arguments that Jesus was a Cajun: 1. He liked to serve fish to his friends. 2. He could make his own wine. 3. And he wasn't afraid of water. My Black friend had 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black: 1. He called everyone "brother". 2. He liked Gospel. 3. He couldn't get a fair trial. My Jewish friend had 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish: 1. He went into His Father's business. 2. He lived at home until he was 33. 3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his mother was sure he was God. My Italian friend gave his 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian: 1. He talked with his hands. 2. He had wine with every meal. 3. He used olive oil. My California friend also had 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian: 1. He never cut his hair. 2. He walked around barefoot all the time. 3. He started a new religion. My Irish friend then gave his 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish: 1. He never got married. 2. He was always telling stories. 3. He loved green pastures. But my women friends have the most compelling evidence of all that Jesus was actually a woman: 1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food. 2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it. 3. And even when he was dead, he had to get up because there was more work to do. Those attributes of women reminded me that Mother's Day is May 14, and that I need to order flower and make dinner reservations for the mother of my children. I'll let them pay the bill, though. 14-05-2006 - Career Opportunities Outlook. . .

Good News for Educators and Health Care Professionals Guess my wife and I are in the right professions because these employment sectors are reported to be the fastest growing career opportunity sectors are in the next few years. I am a Board Certified Chaplain in the healthcare sector and she is a university laboratory preschool director. Education and Health Services Are Where The Jobs Are According to the Department of Labor, the Education Field and Health Services Sector are lumped together to make up what is called an industry supersector. Of all the industries and career fields, this one is projected to grow faster, 30.6 percent, and will add more jobs than any other industry supersector. About 3 out of every 10 new jobs created in the U.S. economy will be in either
  • the healthcare and social assistance sector
  • or private educational services sectors.
So what is my take on these projections of job creation in education and health care? I Think That Chaplain Career Opportunities Will Grow As a healthcare chaplain, I often encourage pastors to explore chaplain career opportunties. I suggest that those interested in a good paying ministry career check out chaplaincy as a ministry career option.I guess my healthcare chaplain career advice is on the money because the report Healthcare and social assistance including private hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, and individual and family services will grow by 30.3 percent and add 4.3 million new jobs. Employment growth will be driven by increasing demand for healthcare and social assistance because of an aging population and longer life expectancies. It Seems that Early Childhood Careers Will Increase That is because, as more women enter the labor force, demand for childcare services is expected to grow. My wife, director of a university lab preschool, seems to be situated in a career with a good future. The projections are that private educational services will grow by 32.5 percent and add 898,000 new jobs through 2014. Why? Rising student enrollments at all levels of education will create demand for educational services. Good thing, too. With our retirement programs, both of us will be working another 25 years. 23-05-2006 - Finding and Fulfilling My Purpose In Life . . .

Helping Others Be All They Can Be, By The Grace Of God is the way I express my purpose statement. Some say it is too wide, and I agree. I tend to be a global thinker. And such a wide purpose statement allows me to take just about any direction in my attempt to fulfill it. Thus I have several new articles I have written as I fulfill what I perceive as God's purpose for my life and career: Decision Making Tool Helps Define The Will Of God
As a decision making tool, Choose It! makes decision making easy. When it comes to determining the will of God for your life, this decision making software can be used for career change choices. Why is college education important?
Question: Why is college education important? Answer: The importance of college education is rather simple -- job opportunity and income. Pastor Appreciation Day Ideas An article focusing upon Pastor appreciation day, offering Pastor appreciation ideas and revealing once again that I need to do something about my most popular keyword, Pastor appreciation poems Student Loan Consolidation Program Strategy And Career Change
A student loan consolidation program, whereby student loan consolidation of a government student loan is often a key career change factor.
Perhaps one of the above articles will help you be all you can be, by the grace of God. If so, I have fulfilled my purpose. Onward with purpose, Chaplain Paul L.Slater
