| 02-10-2006 - Is It Clergy Appreciation or Pastor Appreciation? -
I recently submitted the following article to Focus on the Family, doing so as a response to their request for a pastor appreciation testimony.
While I realize they are looking for specific actions churches have taken to show appreciation to their pastor, I thought that perhaps a small article encouraging clergy appreciation efforts would be helpful.
I mentioned that even though I pastored smaller churches for nearly 30 years, we usually had a self-appointed Pastor Appreciation Champion who made sure something was done to honor the pastor.
Then I added references to my websites, hoping they would consider them worthy resources for Focus on the Family readers. I simply said that it was concern for the 1500 pastors who are reportedly leaving ministry each month that prompted me to begin my two websites:
The message I wanted to convey was that paying tribute to the pastor is done not because a pastor is such a tremendous spiritual shepherd, but because there is a community witness to implementing pastor appreciation ideas.
I honestly feel that most churches want to be known as a loving church and a good way to prove it is through clergy appreciation.
A second reason I suggested for honoring the pastor is that it proves to those wondering about the call of God to ministry that their call is to a ministry vocation that is honored and appreciation.
I added that if we believe in a God-called ministry, we would do well to honor those called of God and then pray that our young people notice.
I did give this blessing in closing my article: may God richly bless your church's witness as you honor your pastor. I then added this comment: I believe that pastor appreciation says more about the congregation than it does about the pastor.
Will Focus on the Family print my article. Perhaps so but if not, I have had the joy of writing it twice.

09-10-2006 - Sleep Issues In The Workplace and Classroom
Sleep issues affecting work: Just How Much Sleep Is Enough To Work Efficiently
Around our home there is an ongoing "how much sleep is enough" debate. The question we were discussing had to do with just how much sleep does a person need.
If my family is characteristic of those with sleep pattern issues, we have proponents of several sleep positions. Our son, who works all night as a chat room moderator, tries to get his shut eye during the day.
I am one of those people who goes to bed late, wakes up at 5:00 am just before the alarm goes off, ready to get working on some webpage projects I must have dreamed about.
My wife is a proponent of 8 to 9 hours of sleep no matter what. Nonetheless, she finds herself working while sleeping, trying to solve teaching personnel concerns and other preschool work issues confronting her as a university based preschool director.
Common Sleep Patterns Of Our Society Impact The Workplace
Recently I came across a study done by the Health Information Network of the National, Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institute of Health concerning prevalent sleep myths.
Sleep Misconceptions Impact Education And Learning
Not only do the common sleep patterns of our society impact the workplace, sleep misconceptions impact education and learning as well. Whether that means the teachers are too tired to teach or that students are too sleepy to learn is the sleep question we need to find answers to.
I recently receive a notice from the NHLBI addressing sleep deprivation problems for children entitled Healthy Sleep Makes Learning Easier
Guess it is time to wake up to the fact that sleeplessness is impacting work and learning and of course health. I plan to write more about Sleep Issues In the Workplace but first I want to sleep on it before I do.

21-10-2006 - Christian Home Based Business Start-up Advice
How to start a home based business is a question often asked of me when they see I have a Christian home based business.
Do you need to develop a business plan to launch a home based business?
Now I know there are those who would suggest you have a basic business plan if your are to begin a business that is home based. This advice is given by those organized type folk who frustrate would be home based entrepreneurs by that gotta have a business plan suggestion.
I am going to go against the grain on that business plan advice for one main reason.
Many entrepreneur type people are anything but organized and if they start a home based business, it is because they start a home based business. Plan? what's a plan, especially a business plan?
I am sure many of us are even capable of devising a plan. In my book, home based business ventures seem to evolve or perhaps a better description, home based businesses erupt.
So how do you know if you should start your own home based enterprise?
What I have noticed about most home based business entrepreneurs is that before beginning a home based business, they were broke, hungry, needed to pay their bills, and usually are considered to be very creative. That said, I think home based businesses just happen. How's this for a home based business plan: Just start.
I've noticed that many of us are very creative people who think outside the box. Unfortunately we creative entrepreneurial types often get into trouble trying to work in a 9 to 5 world. Then again, perhaps I should say fortunately because some of the most successful home business startups came about because of a pink slip (loss of job or being fired).

30-10-2006 - A Mortgage Consultant Sparks Questions Abount Funding Ministry Projects -
Home Mortgage Consultant Questions Promoting Business To Church
Yesterday a home mortgage consultant I attend church services with asked this small business marketing strategy question following church worship services: How do I advertise my services to our church families without violating some church and business promotion rule?
Online Income Opportunities To Fund Church Financial Needs
Our pastor had just delivered the final sermon in our recently sold church property. November we meet in our church fellowship hall until our church remodeling project is completed.
Praise God we are able to fund a good portion of the new sanctuary remodeling costs with proceeds from the former church property sale. But many of our church facility remodeling desires are being cut to keep within budget.
Could an online income opportunity fund our church's financial needs, meet the fiancial pressures of working families, and answer the questions of a home mortgage loan consultant?
High San Diego Housing Costs Challenge The Giving Capacity
One great church financial concern is that high San Diego housing costs challenge the giving capacity of many of our young families and career singles as well as those of us moving into the high priced San Diego housing market.
San Diego housing costs impact more than just surviving San Diego financially. Churches and businesses are impacted financially by high San Diego housing costs too. Possibly this pressure on church finances caused by high housing costs would be true for your community and your local church too.
Personally I think that churches are communities of small business owners, with each one of us being a small business that markets their personal work skills to an employer.
In other words I am a small business enterprise marketing me, myself, and I. Unfortunately only one of me gets paid by my employer. Of course, there is a way I have learned to market me to the internet world so that I earn extra income from my internet marketing strategies. See what I mean by checking out personal website income strategy.
I have to leave for work now but the beauty of blogging is that I can get half finished articles up on my change careers website and finish it later.
