Question: How do I become a Chaplain?

by Jason (Seattle)

This Masters Degree question comes from the Northwest.

Masters Degree Question From Seattle

Pursuing a career as a chaplain would draw all the sides of my nature and interests together into a meaningful and purposeful career.

Is A Masters Degree Absolutely Necessary?

All other career options have high educational requirements.

While I do have an Associates degree, my question pertains to the Masters degree requirement you say is needed to become a professional healthcare chaplain.

My question: Is the only way to go about this and have reasonable access to the work of a Chaplain, to get a Master's Degree?

Why a Masters Degree? Jesus Didn't!

Is A Masters Degree Necessary To Become A Professional Chaplain?

In this ongoing debate the question of education continues with this entry making a case for no formal education:

Did Jesus Christ have a Masters of Divinity/or Advanced Theological degree? No I think not! Though, he was well educated for his day, he still didn't have a degree in anything (He was a carpenter), yet he still went about his ministry.

In fact, he was somewhat separate from the main stream religion of the day, Judaism, in which he came to correct but they did not listen. Also, name one apostle that had a Masters in Divinity or an advanced degree in any kind of ministry.

And then, there is the Great Commission of Christ in which Christ empowered all that would be called his disciples to go about and carry on His ministry. He never said that anyone had to go to school and get a degree in anything. He just said, ?Make disciples of all nations on earth? and to ?baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (28:16-20).?

I agree with you Chaplain Paul. In most cases you must have a Masters of Divinity/or Advanced Theological degree to become a Chaplain.

Education and Chaplain Training
by: Anonymous

When God calls one for ministry He will provide the training. First of all, we must surrender all to God's will daily and ask God to lead us and educate us for His service. The Holy Spirit is your credential.

God will open doors whether by going back to furthering your college education or self-study and getting first hand training from an experienced Chaplain.
